Verizon SIM/IMEI using a TMobile tower?

Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster…

SUMMARY OF QUESTION:
Is it possible to use a VZW business hotspot SIM and instruct the InvisaGig to use TMobile towers?

DETAILS:
I’ve got a Verizon business sim. It works wonderfully, except at home where VZW signal is just weak. I only get about 10mbit down, 2mbit up at home. It’s 300+ down elsewhere where there is better Verizon coverage. At some point, we’ll work on getting a panel antenna, but in the meantime, I’m wondering about having it somehow use TMobile towers.

As a test, I borrowed a TMobile sim from a friend’s hotspot. We did some imei magic, got the APN set, and pow (!!) the InvisaGig worked exactly as designed. I’m getting about 350 down, 20 up. HUGE imporovement.

Of course, the TMobile account isn’t mine, so that’s not a long term option.

I know the Verizon account we have allows for roaming, and I know the InvisaGig can tower lock. However, when I tried to lock to the closest TMO tower, it didn’t give me an IP at all. Is there any way to use my Verizon SIM with my Verizon IMEI spoofed but have it connect to a TMobile tower to leverage that speed as if I were roaming?

Thanks!

This is likely better answered by @ryan, but in general, as long as roaming is truly allowed, it should work. BUT I’m not certain, and there is a good chance it may not.

Long term: Time to source a Tmo SIM

If locking to a specific tower doesn’t work, you could try disabling VZW specific bands (typically 5 and 13) to see if that will force it onto one of the other available TMO bands for roaming but no guarantees this would work. Even if it does work the roaming tower will cut you off pretty fast with data as roaming is primarily used for emergency voice and SMS and the roaming agreements have pretty strict limits on how much data they will allow to be consumed (usually about 200MB per billing cycle).

As Richard suggested, obtaining a TMO SIM would be the way forward long term

Thank you both. That’s what I suspected. (and nice to meet you Ryan).

Nice to meet you too @MagicMan! Thank you for being both a valued InvisaGig customer and contributor to our forums
