Tmobile Second Band Inactive

Hi,

I upgraded my modem today and noticed my speed is much slower. When I check, it seems that my second band is not combining with the main one. I have been using bands 41 and 25 for months with no problems. Immediately after the update my speed has not been the same. If I run both bands on their own it works fine, but when I try to combine both does not work correctly

Any one else is having the same issue?

Hi @JCC

The update itself didn’t make any changes to the baseband operation and should have no effect on the performance. Now, though we highlight the bands to see what is happening as it is operating.

The secondary band will go green under load (streams, downloads, etc) and will go yellow during more ‘idle’ like traffic times.

When looking at the same screen, run a 4k video stream or large download in the background, and you should see the aggregates light up green.

NOTE: If you run the live signal status page at the same time as a speed test, you will see lower speed test results than normal, in most cases; even as much as half as fast. This is because the live signal info page uses large amounts of resources asking the modem to update the info in real time. This screen should be stopped, or navigated away from when running speed tests, in order to get a better idea of actual speed throughput.

As Richard mentioned, this would not be related to the update as the update did not include any baseband changes which impact the modem radio. What are you encountering I have seen much more commonly in many T-Mobile markets who have enabled n25.

I have aggregation issues on n25 as well where download speeds suffer significantly. I have found it best under 5G SA operation to disable n25 at this time as n41 by itself provides much better download speeds for me. For reference with n25 enabled my download speeds top out around 80-100Mbps, whereas with it disabled, and connecting to n41 only, my speeds jump to 400-600Mbps.
