Communications stops between Invisagig and connected device

Hello,

Got a new Invisagig a few weeks ago. First tried the device with the included paddle omni antennas. Communications between the Invisagig and connected device was stopping after a few minutes. This behavior occurred with a WIndows notebook PC connected direct and with a pfSense connected. I was unplugging and re-plugging the Invisagig power brick to recover.

About communications stopping, all data communications between the connected PC or pfSense would stop, and the DHCP IP address would be lost. The issue occurred more quickly when transferring large files.

Then, I tried a 2x2 directional antenna on the primaries with 2 of the included omnis on the secondaries. The signal metrics were much better. Also, with the pfSense computer connected, the problem did not occur for at least a week. Then, the problem started occurring again like at first. I have tried with and without IP passthrough.

I tried the connection watchdog at 5 minutes, but the setup did not recover.

The setup is for 5G only. T-Mobile generic hotspot.

SIM: T-Mobile Sprout BYOD SIM

Plan: Calyx Sprout BYOD

Looking for support, feedback, etc. about these communication issues.

Thanks.

Hey there @bubba !

Quick question, when setup are you connecting antennas directly to the InvisaGig box SMA connectors, or onto the Boomerang antenna base?

We have seen issues with the Ethernet port oddly shutting off when the antennas are connected to the InvisaGig itself, but oddly this only happens when the band n41 connects from T-Mobile. When using the antennas on the boomerang base, and the 30” cables, this no longer happens. We did have to setup this way for or T-Mobile certification and so technically have to use the antennas this way for official T-Mobile network use.

It only seems to effect the Ethernet port, and driver chip, the modem itself is 100% still operating and online (if you setup Tailscale you should actually be able to remote into your interface over the Tailscale IP still, which doesn’t help your use of the modem, but proves the modem is actually still fully operational.)

We are working with the modem chip manufacturer to see where this problem may lay, but for now it seems simply using our antenna base system solves this particular issue when on T-Mobile and connected to 5G SA n41 as primary band.

I had the included omnis directly on the Invisagig and the 2x2 directional connected to the Invisagig with 3-foot cables. The four included extensions and boomerang are installed now. Thanks. I’m on TMO n41.
