During a wind storm a few months ago the tower I connected to primarily suddenly stopped providing upload but still plenty of download. For whatever reason the watchdog really likes this tower and keeps connecting me to it but of course causes internet death. I have no way of knowing if/when the ISP will ever restore the functionality but is there a way for me to block it?
I have had no choice but to use the tower locking feature but every once in awhile it fails the watchdog checks and fails over to the still broken tower.
For now, I’m thinking I will just remove the tower’s band but it would be cool if we could add allow/block listing for the tower selection interface.
@ryan will be more technically capable of explaining this one, but generally speaking the limitations to the feature would be the core system not having the function; that we know of. It may be possible manually, but it likely would be a clunky process of: See it, reboot, relock to better tower, repeat. Not the best, but maybe a start.
I love the idea though. Definitely something to put in th pool of feature requests!
Love the idea! As Richard indicated some of the underlying functionality might not be in place yet to make such a feature work seamlessly but I can already envision workarounds such as watchdog performing a periodic check of the tower, comparing it to a “block list” and then forcing a reconnect to the carrier if it finds it has connected to an undesirable cell. Thanks for sharing this idea!
